Biology Pre-Professional Tracks 

Since pre-med, pre-physician assistant or pre-physical therapy are not college majors, GMercyU's Biology program offers the following optional pre-professional tracks within the Biology program.
Each features a set of courses within the major to prepare you for your next step — medical school, or a PA or Physical Therapy graduate program.

Pre-Med Track Courses

Want to become a physician? This track features the specific coursework recommended for those interested in medicine, to prepare you for the MCAT and medical school admission. Our Pre-Professional Advising Office is also ready to help you with your medical school applications and preparing for the MCAT exam.

BIO 305/305L  Biology of Microorganism
BIO 313  Immunology


PSY 100 and SOC 100 satisfies two of your Exploring Society and Global Diversity electives (of your General Education course requirements). The other three courses satisfy Biology Elective requirements.


Pre-Physician Assistant Track Courses

With the job growth for PAs expected to increase by 28% through 2033 (seven times the national average), now is a great time to pursue becoming a physician assistant or physican associate. PSY 100 will satisy one of your Exploring Society and Global Diversity electives (of your General Education course requirements). BIO 107/107L and BIO 108/108L will satisfy your open electives. The remaining courses will satisfy Biology Electives requirements.

Pre-Physical Therapy Track Courses

PSY 100 and PSY 200 will satisy two of your Exploring Society and Global Diversity electives (of your General Education course requirements). BIO 107/107L and 108/108L will satisfy open electives. Two Biology electives will be satisfied with Human Physiology and HS 109.

 

GMercy Biology majors can declare one of these tracks at the beginning of your sophomore year or at any point until senior year, so long as you've taken the appropriate designated courses.
